TFT is a display font created during our Type Follows Tools workshop at Krowji’s Summer Showcase, built by visitors who dropped in to the studio over the course of a day.
Each participant was given the same six stamps and asked to make a single letter or digit. There were no rules about style, alignment or consistency — just a shared starting point and a limited set of parts.
Some characters are neat and deliberate, others are rushed or unresolved. Shapes are rotated in unexpected ways, overlapped, and proportions shift from letter to letter. Instead of smoothing these differences out, the typeface keeps the collective energy of the community that made it.
Working with such a tight system quickly revealed its edges. Contributors started competing to stretch the forms to the limits of legibility. Many of the most interesting results sit right at that point.

Alongside the font, we produced a limited run of A2 posters for workshop participants featuring a quote by type designer Wolfgang Weingart:
“Electronic equipment replaces neither eyes, hands, nor heart.”
We have a few spare, so get in touch if you'd like to come and collect one.

TFT is available to download and use freely — it can be adapted, extended or built upon, just not for commercial gain.
