In the 16th century ‘Banksyde’ was outside London's city walls, making it a natural landing place for outsiders and free thinkers. It became notorious as the rowdy pleasure quarter full of theatres, brothels and gambling dens. Today, the area continues to be a vibrant creative and cultural neighbourhood, home to the world’s most visited art gallery, Tate Modern, and London's oldest food hall, Borough Market.
#thisisbankside is a campaign and discovery trail which lives on walls, under feet and on the street. Designed to draw people away from the main drag and into the backstreets where they can uncover a rich, diverse history and dynamic crop of young businesses creating the next chapter for the district.
